Autumn/Winter - The Gutters.
You may have noticed that Hilversum is a very leafy area, the leaves are beginning there fall, so at this time of year it is best to inspect and clean your gutters from leaves and other debris. Clogged gutters need cleaning as water will spill over them onto the ground next to the foundations, which may cause damage.
Gutters and downspouts should be kept clean and direct the water away from the foundations, as well as from the walkways and driveways, so they don't become slippery or icy. Also note that it is often the tenants responsibility to have the gutters cleaned so check your contract and your gutters.

Autumn/Winter - The Fireplace.
Most chimney sweeps recommend an annual sweeping, and it may form part of your contract with a landlord to take care of this, so check the details in the contract if you are planning on using your wood-burning fireplace. You might be able to wait on a full sweep, but if you are using it often, call a chimney sweep for an inspection.
Hopefully you will have your older seasoned wood now ready for use after sitting for the summer, seasoned wood is best for fires as it burns cleaner and longer. It is also recommended that you store firewood at least 30ft from the house if its possible and covered.
